The Great Bear mitigation bank is owned by Weyerhaeuser NR Company and located in Ashley County, Arkansas within the Felsenthal Nation Wildlife Refuge. The Great Bear is 523 acres of bottomland hardwood bank.

The bank is restoring 439 acres of bedded pine plantations to native bottomland hardwoods, along with 51 acres of upland buffer, to a mixed pine and hardwood forest. In addition, 17 acres of existing bottomland hardwood forest are being preserved.

Credits created from the restoration of these bottomland hardwood wetlands can be purchased to offset losses of wetlands as required by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
